Lake Garda

Lake Garda

We drove South from the cool alpine meadows of the Dolomites to the lower terrain of Lake Garda. The heat as you would expect in June, a wall of muggy air hit us each morning when we left our apartment and only gave in if the evening brought some cooling rain. Garda is Italy's largest lake and a popular holiday destination; its appeal can be attributed to the beautiful views offered from the surrounding mountains. Winding roads and long tunnels take you up into the mountain side, where villages are scattered, emerging from the rock at seemingly impossible heights. From way up there you can watch tiny boats cut paths through the water, the opposing shoreline only just visible through the summer haze.
